More interesting conversations while visiting friends in the golf industry this week.
It seems we have a general shortage of greenkeepers across the industry globally! Have we pushed the professional image and percieved qualification requirements to such an extent that we may actually be deterring people from entering the golf industry? How many people see the job title/advert and are are put off because they simply don't know what it entails or actually who a greenkeeper is? How many people might apply for a job if you advertised "Required - maintainer of grass"?
In pushing the industry to train us to be more elite, are we in fact alienating ourselves from the very people we want to attract into this line of work?
